A fairytale road full of surprises

A fascinating route through breathtaking landscapes and mountain villages in the heart of nature, with a unique experience in the Little Dolomites.

A route through unique mountains and panoramas

This mountain road is often compared to the famous Brasa Schlucht or the Forra road on Lake Garda because of its beauty and the curves carved into the rocks. The area is called the ‘Little Dolomites’ because of the similarity of the mountain shape to the real Dolomites.

It is a beautiful route to drive by car or bike:

  • Beautiful (small) waterfalls
  • Breathtaking viewpoints
  • An open-air altar embedded in the rocks

The route leads to two characteristic mountain villages, Presegno and Bisenzio, immersed in a timeless atmosphere. In winter, Presegno has only 10 inhabitants, while Bisenzio is uninhabited. In summer, however, the village comes to life thanks to the return of holidaymakers.

Departure from Lavenone (BS)

The route begins in Lavenone (BS), located a 5-minute drive from Lake Idro.
Turn off the main road onto ‘Via per Presegno’, from where you can simply follow the main road to immerse yourself in the surrounding landscape.

Please note: as this is a mountain road with tight bends and hairpin turns, it is essential to drive carefully and adjust your speed to the conditions of the route.

Stop at the Abbioccalo River

The Abbioccalo river flows along the right side of the road, an excellent place for a short break and to cool your feet in the crystal-clear water.

Arrival in Presegno

  • Parking: at the entrance to the village
  • Explore the village on foot to admire the historic architecture

What to see

  • Panoramic bench in the shape of a heart
  • An authentic little bar for a quick break/lunch
  • Historic stone houses with fascinating architectural details

Madonna del Cuel – An altar in the rock

A short distance from Presegno is a charming open-air altar that can be reached on foot in 10-15 minutes by following the road to Bisenzio.

On the way, a sign indicates the turnoff to ‘Madonna del Cuel’. If you take this small road, you will come to this beautiful location with:

  • An enormous natural rock arch
  • A statue of the Madonna on an altar
  • Four wooden benches for prayer or meditation

A place of peace and contemplation, surrounded by nature.

Last stop: Bisenzio

How to get there

  • On foot: about a 20-minute walk from Madonna del Cuel
  • By car: continue along the main road, with an ascending route and narrow hairpin bends

Once you are there, it is best to park at the church and visit the village on foot. The atmosphere is unique, almost suspended in time, with evocative views and an authentic experience.

Please note: this route has roads and hairpin bends that are sometimes narrow, so caution is advised when driving.

Conclusion

This route offers an authentic experience among mountains, nature and historic villages, with spectacular landscapes and charming villages.

It is a recommended route for those who love scenic roads and want to discover hidden places of great beauty.
